Staying Positive & Scratching the Itch!

Most Americans, Canadians, Europeans....well, most of the WORLD (like Marco and I above) are cooped up at home as we fight the global Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately for most of us, that also means we're stuck at home to focus on the news of the pandemic all the time....(with no chance of hitting the casinos)!

​Well I say there is  something better we can do with our time....

Here are 5 things to remember each time that anxiety sneaks up on you. ​
​

​1. You are not alone. We are all going through it, and the only way we'll get through it is if we work together. Any thoughts of despair, desperation or anxiety - we are all feeling them in different ways. You still have the air in your lungs and we can only take it one breath at a time.

2. We have never been more connected. From the most distant and rural parts of the world, to the biggest cities. From school teachers to pro-basketball players and celebrities. From Latin America to Africa to Malta - it has touched all of our lives. The virus sees no borders, it sees no sex, sexuality or race. And that reminds us that we are all the same, we are equal, we are human. If people didn't see that before, it's about time they did.

3. Redefine who you are. Never before has an opportunity presented itself where you can take a step back and re-evaluate your life. Are you truly happy at your job? Have you prioritized your life correctly? With the world economy in a downward spiral and markets on a roller coaster ride, it's the best time to focus on what is important. Your happiness. Your car, your house, your phone...it all means nothing unless you are happy. While you are forced to stay at home, come up with a plan of action to make positive, achievable goals in your life. I'm not saying go quit your job now, but start with focusing on the now.

4. Get 'er done! I'm very good at setting goals and tasks to do. I'm very bad at finding time to get them done. Now that we're forced to stay home, it's time to pick up that shovel, that paint brush, that broom or that sponge. It's time to get Spring cleaning going! Ok, although I associate cleaning as being a negative, you know it has a positive outcome, haha. 

5. Do something for others. From something as easy as messaging an old friend, to checking on an elderly neighbor or ordering in from your local restaurant. You are positively affecting someone else who is also struggling. Donate food to the food banks, or better still, volunteer at one. One great thing I heard from the LA governor which I loved - pre-purchase goods. Places like your barber, local restaurant, massage therapist - pre-purchase 5 haircuts or a massage to help them get through this as well. They still have bills piling up with zero income coming in. 

Even casinos are suffering. Las Vegas is losing an estimated 14 million dollars a day. Airlines are going through the same. Why not book those Christmas vacations or next Vegas trip now? Britt and I are busy booking flights for the rest of 2020 to try and do our part. We're booking our cruises for October and February now. 

And I get it, the world has gone to 💩. And many people are truly, truly suffering. Loss of jobs and income with bills that won't pay themselves. If you are stuck, a simple search on googlemaps will turn up food banks in your area or churches willing to assist you. Seek out assistance from your family and friends. There is no shame in seeking assistance, as once again, you are truly not alone and we will get through this together.

And remember, there is no point in focusing on the things we have zero control over.  Say that again if it didn't stick the first time. Don't focus on the virus, it's a waste of time. We couldn't have prevented it. Don't focus on losing a job, you had no control over that. What we ARE in control of, is our own actions. And I say we do that with the bravest face, with the biggest smiles and with the most positivity in the world. Surround yourselves with the love of family and friends.
