My first year in the US, Marco and I lived in the Northern California Bay Area. I would drive to LA every week to audition and take classes for film/TV (yes, 12 hours a week driving!). With New Years just around the corner, we had planned a trip to Vegas - our first time EVER visiting the city. In preparation, I turned to YouTube to find out what casinos to visit and I came across people playing slot machines. At first I thought it was nuts to watch someone else gamble, but within minutes (as I’m sure you can attest), I was engulfed in the world of SLOTS. Fast forward a year and Marco and I now lived in Los Angeles. I was once again returning to Vegas on a trip with family and it was at this time when I decided that I’d try my hand at filming my play. I never wanted to start a slots channel - in fact I posted my videos on my 7 year old acting channel (that had around 30 subscribers!) as opposed to starting an actual ‘Slots Channel’. I did it merely for the fun and excitement. I kid you not when I say that I had ZERO intentions of going much further with it and little did I know that this action would forever alter my path in life. I don’t think there is a soul on the planet who could have predicted what we have built would become what it is today. But it was the actor and filmmaker inside of me who wanted to change it up a bit from what I was used to watching. My first videos were kind of lackluster, but the viewers found something unique they liked in them. I never advertised, shared my videos to social media or did any sort of publicity aside from simply publishing them on YouTube. Instead, I allowed them to grow organically. I mean I didn’t plan on my channel succeeding and so I gave it no thought as to whether or not I should share them anyhow. To my complete shock and surprise, the videos took off! Within 3 months I had 4,349 subscribers and was invited to join the YouTube partner program. It was at this point where it was time for me to make the most important decision of my life. For some reason the world had presented this crazy path for me. Do I follow this non-scheduled journey or let it go and continue on the path of acting which I had been on for the past decade plus. I decided that perhaps I should see where this one may lead. Two and a half years later there’s this magical thing called the RUDIES, 65 million views, and a Silver YouTube Play button on my wall. None of it came without a ton of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. I knew nothing about YouTube going in and so I studied hard, took classes, attended conferences, emailed companies and basically started to take charge of my own path. 2 years ago I couldn’t have told you I’d be where I am today, and I have no clue where I’ll be in a further 2 years. But I will continue on this path and I thank you for joining me on the ride! BC ❤️ “OMG, I want your life!”, is a comment I hear a lot. To which I always respond, ‘If you only knew…’ Everyone assumes that since they see me gamble 7 days a week on YouTube, and that I’m always traveling to different casinos, that all I do is GAMBLE! I haven’t done the math, but I’m fairly certain that my gambling time represents around 5% of what I do. On a normal day, I wake up around 7am, check out how my video is doing for the day (scheduled and posted on YouTube for 4am PST), review my email / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Snapchat - responding to dozens of questions and comments, before showering and eating breakfast. The entirety of the day revolves around responding to countless emails, reaching out to casinos for approvals, holding conference calls with different properties or brands, posting and responding to my private Rudies page, and more. I give my Rudies most of my free time as I’m very grateful for their support and I want them to feel special. I will go through any orders from BCSlots.com and personally package them and seal them with a RUDE sticker. If there are only a couple orders for the day, I can give them to my USPS delivery person, Yvonne (she’s amazing). Otherwise a trip to the post office is in order where I will check out my P.O. Box for any deliveries. This usually includes a trip to a local vegan fast food joint for some added deliciousness. On my way home I may pick up groceries, but these days I often will just order my groceries for delivery from Amazon to save time. I’m always trying to reinvent myself and my channel to keep it fresh, so I’ll spend hours creating new ideas, researching a ton and pulling the trigger on some that seem to make sense. Not everything I have tried works out, but often times it does. Understanding your audience is an integral part of the business and I feel I have a good grasp of that. A huge part of my work obviously revolves around my videos. Each month I generally have one trip by plane to a destination (Vegas, Sacramento, Atlantic City, New York, Maryland, Michigan, etc.) for a 4 day weekend, on top of 2-3 Wednesday nights at my local casino (as part of my ongoing Wednesday Night Live Streams). So in an average month there will be 6 days of gambling. The odd time it may be more if I do a tour or hold a special event like a Rudies Cruise, Rudies Weekend, BC Slots Tournament, or attend an industry conference like G2E. Currently I work from around 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. With my team continuing to grow, I’m hoping to have a better work/life balance with a Monday to Friday 9-5 commitment. I’ll never complain because I love what I do, and I don’t take any of it for granted. Signing off… from an airplane… after an exciting event at a casino! BC ❤️ |
